Rebel Moon has starred Rupert Friend and Stuart Martin to its cast. The film is one of Netflix’s biggest science fiction projects ever. Snyder’s newest smash hit is set on faraway alien planets. The filmmaker has hinted that the film would pay tribute to a number of previous films, including Star Wars and the work of director Akira Kurosawa. With Warner Bros. and Snyder gradually separating, this is Netflix’s effort to attract talent by ceding greater creative control over project selection.
Netflix Geeked has revealed that Rupert Friend (Hitman, Anatomy of a Scandal) and Stuart Martin (Army of Thieves) will take on major villains on Rebel Moon. According to the limited sneak peek about the narrative, Friend is most likely portraying Balisarius, an interplanetary warlord who has reached the doorstep of a little planet. Friend and Martin also round out previously-announced Rebel Moon cast that includes Sofia Boutella (The Mummy), Charlie Hunnam (The Gentlemen), Djimon Hounsou (Shazam), Ray Fisher (Justice League), and Doona Bae (Cloud Atlas).

It will be Boutella’s character who will take the main role in Rebel Moon, as she starts to team up to fight against Balisarius’s forces. Snyder, Army of the Dead co-writer Shay Hatten, and 300 co-screenwriter Kurt Johnstad are working together to develop the screenplay and create a new fictitious universe for the film. The writing team for Rebel Moon is riffing on a previous idea by director Zack Snyder for a Star Wars film that has been in the works for more than a decade. Snyder’s Rebel Moon, which will use similar themes and settings to the popular series but will not be bound by the history of prior work, has the potential to be a fresh new take on the space opera genre when the shooting starts off in April.
