We haven’t heard anything about the live-action sequel to Whisper of the Heart in a long time. Fans may be confident, though, that the film will be released shortly. A new teaser for the highly awaited film has been released, revealing the film’s new release date for later this year!
The latest trailer for Whisper of the Heart (“Mimi o Sumaseba”) shows Shizuku Tsukishima and Seiji Amasawa as teenagers. What happens after the two form a friendship? In the teaser, we see Shizuku and Seiji as adults living apart.

There were two posters for Whisper of the Heart in addition to the new teaser. The first depicts Shizuku and Seiji as adults, while the second depicts them as middle school students. The Baron is seen in the foreground of both posters.
It was also reported that Runa Yasuhara and Tsubasa Nakagawa will play the youthful Shizuku and Seiji, respectively.
Whisper of the Heart is inspired by Aoi Hiiragi’s manga. Studio Ghibli produced the anime film adaption, which was the studio’s first feature not directed by Hayao Miyazaki or Isao Takahata (Yoshifumi Kondo helmed the film). However, Miyazaki was involved because he created the film’s screenplay.
The next film will follow Shizuku and Seiji as they continue to strive to realize their aspirations ten years after the events of the manga and anime. Only one of them is genuinely successful, but if they meet paths again, will they both succeed?
