The third show in Netflix’s history to exceed one billion hours of viewing in the first month of its streaming, Wednesday has become the company’s newest massive smash and has shattered numerous streaming records. The second season’s renewal, which many fans have been eagerly anticipating, now appears inescapable given the records it broke.

The second season of Wednesday has officially been renewed, according to a recent Deadline story. The official announcement, however, is anticipated to be made in the new year, however, early work has already begun as producers are scouting for new locations and authors have been asked to join the writer’s room.
Additionally, they said that although talks are anticipated to go well and that MGM’s ownership by Netflix’s competitor Amazon won’t scupper plans for any future seasons, MGM and Netflix are still in talks about the renewal.
It’s wonderful to learn that the series’ second season renewal is assured, which shouldn’t come as a surprise given all the records it has already shattered. While we have seen Netflix cancel some popular shows, it appears that this won’t be the case at all. If the rating trends continue in the upcoming seasons, we may be expecting a longer shelf life.
For the time being, all we can do is wait for the formal announcement, which we can anticipate in the coming weeks as we approach the anticipated announcement window around the new year.
On Netflix, the first season of Wednesday may be watched.
