Evidently, Wakanda is becoming animated.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been wondering what would happen to the country of Wakanda onscreen after the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. There have been rumors that Marvel Studios is working on Wakandan-focused spinoff projects, but we haven’t received any updates on their progress.
Reporter Jeff Sneider disclosed on The Hot Mic show that Marvel Studios and Ryan Coogler are creating a Black Panther spinoff/Wakanda-focused animated series titled The Golden City. This is the latest intriguing update on one of the Wakanda-centric projects currently in development.
He made no mention of the project’s progress, cast members participating, characters to be seen, or whether it is a prequel or takes place after the events of Wakanda Forever. He also made no mention of whether the movie is still in development.
However, it is likely that this is another project that Marvel and Coogler are working on focusing on the country of Wakanda. There has been some confusion regarding whether this project is distinct from the Wakanda live-action series that was also reportedly in the works or whether they are all the same.
Marvel Studios has not, as of yet, confirmed any of these rumors, so we must still treat them with caution. Given that they are working on other animated series, there is a chance that this will turn out to be the case, and this will provide them another opportunity to tell additional Wakanda-related tales.
The news that an animated series centered on Wakanda is in the works is intriguing because it demonstrates Marvel Studios’ commitment to presenting additional tales about the country and because Ryan Coogler‘s involvement in the project adds to its intrigue.
Let’s wait and see if this idea materializes for now, especially given that the MCU is presently experiencing a “franchise recession” while Disney considers if Marvel Studios should take on more projects than they previously did.
On Disney+, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is streamable.
