The sequel to ‘Legacy‘ will be directed by ‘Pirates 5‘ co-director Joachim Ronning.
Tron 3 is progressing at Disney after years of halts and starts. The movie will star the project’s longtime supporter Jared Leto, and frequent Disney colleague Joachim Ronning is in talks to helm it. Following 2010’s Tron: Legacy, the movie Tron: Ares includes a script by Jesse Wigutow.

Jeff Bridges starred as video game designer Kevin Flynn in the 1982 Disney film Tron. After being transported inside his own creation, Flynn teams up with Tron, a security program played by Bruce Boxleitner.
The film was not considered a box office success, earning only $33 million (about $100 million now), but it was hailed for its groundbreaking visual effects and stayed in viewers’ imaginations for years, eventually prompting a sequel, Tron: Legacy.
The second film by Joseph Kosinski, which starred Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, and Olivia Wilde, earned $400 million in total, but not enough to support the planned sequel. After years of development, Disney officially gave up on a Kosinski sequel in 2015. Since then, Tron 3 has undergone a number of improvements. Director of Lion most recently signed on for 2020, however that version stopped. Along with his Kon-Tiki co-director Espen Sandberg, Ronning co-directed Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.
