The official trailer for the fifth and final season of Netflix’s British historical fiction series, The Last Kingdom, has just been released. In comparison to Game of Thrones narrating the story of Uhtred, who was brought up by Vikings and discovers he was born an Anglo-Saxon, the fifth season of the successful series will be released on Netflix on March 9.
The trailer for The Last Kingdom’s fifth season begins with a sense of anxiety as if a battle is about to break out. The Saxons want to migrate north, but new Vikings poses a threat to their survival. When things begin to deteriorate, King Uhtred is summoned. A female Viking with white tattoos on her face asks that Uhtred be brought to her, escalating the tension to the climax. The rest of the trailer displays intense combat, including a confrontation on a cliff where many people perish.
The Last Kingdom is based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories, a series of thirteen novels. The first eight novels served as the foundation for the first four seasons of the series, and Cornwell has since renamed his novel series The Last Kingdom series, according to his website. The first book in the series, The Last Kingdom, was published in 2004, and the final book in the series, War Lord, was published in October 2020. Stephen Butchard, who also wrote the British crime thriller series Baghdad Central, is developing the television adaptation of The Last Kingdom. The first two seasons of The Last Kingdom air on BBC America in the United States before being released on Netflix afterward. The Last Kingdom was released completely by Netflix commencing with season three.

Even though Season 5 will be the show’s final season, viewers can chill out since a follow-up feature picture titled Seven Kings Must Die is slated to begin shooting this year. The cast of The Last Kingdom now includes Alexander Dreymon, Mark Rowley, Eliza Butterworth, Emily Cox, Eva Birthistle, Cavan Clerkin, and others.
