Since 1995, there have been four major versions of the animated film franchise Toy Story, which features Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear and Tom Hanks as Woody. In 2019, Toy Story 4 broke the $1 billion mark at the box office. The Chris Evans-starring spinoff Lightyear was launched last year to underwhelming reviews.
After the 2016 film grossed over $1 billion at the box office, rumors of a Zootopia sequel had been around for years. In the original film, Gennifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman voiced the main characters.
The changes come as Disney works to revitalize its animation industry following disappointing box office results for both Pixar’s Lightyear and Disney Animation’s Strange World in 2017. The earnings call on Wednesday marks Iger‘s first since taking over as CEO again following Bob Chapek‘s dismissal in the latter part of last year. Iger discussed the company’s new organizational structure on the call and disclosed that 7,000 people will be let go as a result of the plans.
Iger also said that an Avatar experience will be housed in Disneyland in Anaheim, California. At Disney World in Orlando, Florida, there is already Pandora – The World of Avatar. Iger did not provide any other information regarding the upcoming Disneyland attraction, but he did note that Avatar: The Way of Water had sold more than $2.1 billion worth of tickets since opening in December, making it the fourth most successful movie of all time.
