The first reviews for Tom Cruise‘s Top Gun: Maverick are in, and the picture looks to have wowed reviewers.
The first Top Gun was released in 1986, and it was one of the films that helped Tom Cruise establish himself as a prominent Hollywood star. A movie has been in progress for quite a long time. The film was eventually put into production under the direction of Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski, based on a scenario by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie, a longtime Tom Cruise collaborator.
Top Gun: Maverick was delayed several times, in part owing to technical difficulties and in part due to the Covid-19 outbreak, along with many other films. The film’s latest postponement was announced in September of last year, and it looks to be the last time it will be postponed. Critics who saw Top Gun: Maverick earlier today at CinemaCon had nothing but nice things to say about the Tom Cruise flick.
The following are some of the reactions:
One word: Wow! #TopGunMaverick is absolutely terrific in every conceivable way. The action & flying is crazy intense & continually changes & evolves. You’re on the edge of your seat. I was not prepared for how emotional it was, too. The crowd cheered a dozen times. It’s real deal pic.twitter.com/G1dacuZctz— Erik Davis (@ErikDavis) April 28, 2022
Absolutely loved #TopGunMaverick. Blown away by the cinematography and flying scenes and of course @TomCruise’s performance. Rest of the cast was great with special props to @Miles_Teller and @glenpowell. This is the kind of movie you want to see on the biggest screen possible. pic.twitter.com/PIfs2aGi2v— Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) April 28, 2022
Just saw #TopGunMaverick at #CinemaCon – goodness gracious. Might be the best movie in 10 years. Thrills & chills, tears & cheers. @TomCruise is unparalleled. It exceeds anything you could imagine. Top Gun Maverick is going to completely blow away fans of the original and may even make some new ones along the way. Truthfully, even though the plot is very dependent on that of the original, I found the film to be better than the original in almost every way. #TopGunMaverick pic.twitter.com/t7P4VLxMeU— Scott Menzel (@ScottDMenzel) April 28, 2022
THAT..WAS..AWESOME! One of the best things you’ll see on the big screen this year.., or ANY year! Thank you @TomCruise (and crew)! @TopGunMovie #worththewait #TopGunMaverick #TomCruise @ParamountPics pic.twitter.com/TBjAtZisUg— Tara Hitchcock (@TaraTV1) April 28, 2022
#TopGunMaverick is a profound cinematic experience and easily the best film of the year. What Kosinski, @chrismcquarrie, @eddiehamilton and of course @TomCruise have accomplished is epic and intimate, heart stopping and heartbreaking. However good you think it’ll be, it’s better. pic.twitter.com/gZ75xQYxDs— Drew Taylor (@DrewTailored) April 28, 2022
Full disclosure. I’m a huge Top Gun fan. But I think even if I wasn’t, I would have LOVED Top Gun: Maverick. The action is intense & gorgeous, characters and relationships rich & rewarding, then it tugs on the heart strings too. It’s a special sequel & I’ll be its wingman anytime pic.twitter.com/i23WuIvE9m— Germain Lussier (@GermainLussier) April 28, 2022
TOP GUN: MAVERICK is the perfect blockbuster. Not only did it feature dazzling aerial combat sequences, but I actually cried, it’s that emotional. And call me crazy, but I humbly predict that it WILL land a Best Picture nod next year. It’s not just THAT good, it’s VERY good. 😉— Jeff Sneider (@TheInSneider) April 28, 2022
