‘Top Gun: Maverick’ On Track To Hit To $274M Mark, Becoming Tom Cruise’s Highest-Grossing Movie Ever At Domestic Box Office

This weekend, Top Gun: Maverick is on track to become Tom Cruise‘s highest-grossing movie ever at the American box office, with a projected total of $273.6 million. The three-time Oscar nominee’s previous high-grossing film was Steven Spielberg‘s 2005 science fiction film War of the Worlds, taking in $234 million

Top Gun: Maverick is eye to surpass War of the Worlds on Saturday. The Joseph Kosinski-directed sequel is anticipating the second Friday of $20M, -61 percent versus last Friday (+previews), on its way to a 3-day of $68M, -46 percent. There are some competing studios that believe it is far higher, but it is still early in the game.

Top Gun: Maverick racked up $205.6M in its first week of release. This weekend, the Paramount/Skydance film will easily surpass Tom Cruise‘s lifetime stateside totals for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol ($209 million), Mission: Impossible II ($215 million), and Mission: Impossible – Fallout ($220 million, the highest-grossing title at domestic B.O. in that franchise).
