Top Gun: Maverick has flown up to the $1 billion milestones at the worldwide box office.

Top Gun: Maverick has continued to shatter a series of box office records. Recently, the Tom Cruise sequel hit the $500 million mark domestically, easily dethroning Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to take the crown of 2022. It has now also soared in the international market by reaching the coveted $1 billion mark, its most recent milestone.
Top Gun: Maverick‘s current domestic gross is $521 million, while its overseas gross is $484,7 million, for a total of almost $1.006 billion globally. This is the first film of 2022 and the first since Spider-Man: No Way Home to reach this box office milestone.
The fact that this is the first Tom Cruise picture to gross over $1 billion worldwide is maybe the most startling fact of all. As one of the few major marquee movie actors, it’s a little surprising that he hasn’t starred in a $1 billion film until now given his international reputation. On the one hand, it is a legacy sequel to a classic picture that was released in 1986, but on the other hand, the film’s legs at the box office are a sign of its tremendous word of mouth.
