It appears that Tom Cruise is still the man to contact in 2022 if you need a true blockbuster. The first reviews for “Top Gun: Maverick” have arrived, and critics agree that the picture has all the makings of a major box office hit. On Rotten Tomatoes, the long-awaited “Top Gun” sequel has been certified fresh, with a near-perfect score of 97 percent as of this writing.
Yesterday, Paramount Pictures celebrated the milestone with a Twitter post that prominently displayed the coveted Certified Fresh logo from the aggregating site. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has 89 reviews as of publishing, with just three of them being unfavorable. That’s a huge endorsement for the sequel, which bodes well for “Top Gun: Maverick,” which hits cinemas on May 27, 2022.
In comparison, “The Batman,” the highest-grossing film of 2022, has an 85 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating, making it become the highest of any major American box office smash this year. “The Lost City” has a 79 percent critical score among the remainder of the year’s top five films, while “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” has a 74 percent. “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” received a 68 percent good rating from reviewers, whereas “Uncharted” received a dismal 41 percent.
“Top Gun: Maverick” has gotten more positive reviews from critics than any of the year’s most profitable films, and it appears to be on track to do well with audiences as well.
This seems like a very emphatic triumph for everyone involved in this flick, especially in a movie industry that is at best insecure.
On May 27, 2022, “Top Gun: Maverick” will be premiered in cinemas. Some selected areas will also provide sneak previews on May 24, 2022.
