Tom Blyth, star of the Epix Western series Billy the Kid, is the first actor to sign on for Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games prequel, the company revealed Monday.
Blyth will take on the role of the younger version of Snow, which was originally played by Donald Sutherland in the films.
The Hunger Games franchise raked in almost $3 billion worldwide by the time it wrapped up in 2014, and the corporation is now attempting to continue its run with an adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ newest dystopian book, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Francis Lawrence, who helmed three of the four Hunger Games films — Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part One, and Mockingjay Part Two — returns to the director’s chair for The Hunger Games prequel. Franchise producer Nina Jacobson and her partner Brad Simpson are also returning to their roles as producers for the film. Additionally, Lawrence also serves as the producer.
The release date for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is set for November 17, 2023.
