Prior to his death, a cameo appearance by the famous Stan Lee, the mastermind behind the comic book business, was a staple of every Marvel film. While the Marvel projects have progressed since then without him, many fans still miss seeing him on film. Now, it appears that the tradition will be revived in the near future.
Stan Lee Universe, a joint venture between Genius Brands International and POW! Entertainment has struck a 20-year contract with Marvel Studios that permits them to utilize Lee‘s name and likeness in future films, TV series, Disney theme parks, and other “experiences.”
Marvel now has the authority to utilize Lee‘s name, voice, likeness, signature, photographs, existing footage, and current audio recordings in film and television productions, as well as theme parks, cruise lines, and in-park products, thanks to this new contract. However, they noted that this does not necessarily imply that Lee would appear in the MCU films in the manner that fans have come to expect.
Right now, it’s difficult to predict how much Lee will appear in Marvel Studios’ future films.
While it appears that there are no plans to resuscitate Lee through CGI in order for him to make cameo appearances in future MCU films and TV episodes, we may expect to see pictures of Lee in future MCU films and TV series, whether as an easter egg in the backdrop or in-universe video.
Fans may have conflicting sentiments about this announcement, depending on how Lee will be used in future Marvel productions. Many of them may be offended if he is used in the same manner that Peter Cushing was in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, it would be harmless if he merely appeared through photos, and it would still be a worthy homage to Lee’s legacy.
Marvel has yet to make a formal statement on how the deal would affect the MCU’s future, but we can anticipate Lee to return in some role shortly.
