After Jane Foster was confirmed to be the new wielder of the Mjolnir, there were theories that she is a variant of the titular character’s ex-girlfriend, but the official trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder implies the opposite – she is still the scientist who chased the god in the first two installments.
With the introduction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s multiverse, the question of whether one character is a variant of another lingers, especially when one undergoes a drastic change, such as Jane Foster, who is no longer the scientist seen in the first two Thor films, but rather, she’s all toned and muscular donning the Mighty Thor suit.

When the first Thor: Love and Thunder teaser emerged, Jane Foster was the first to wield the reforged Mjolnir, much to the amazement of everyone, including Thor. Theories around her stated that she was a reincarnation of a previous Jane established in the MCU.
However, the movie’s official trailer shows that Jane Foster is still the same person she was previously, but dressed differently because she now wears a costume and has gained significant muscle mass. The teaser also implied that her time apart from Thor was cut short since she was blipped by Thanos.
When Jane and Thor were talking, she mentioned the years they hadn’t seen each other, and she stated it was somewhere between three and four years when Thor had the days vividly in his brain that it had been eight years and seven months. Given the temporal difference between the two of them, the hiccup may have cost Jane five years of her life.
Thor: Love and Thunder is intended to explore the universe of the gods, as well as a hypothetical other reality or another dimension not yet explored in the franchise. The emergence of the villain, Gorr the God Butcher, is eagerly anticipated, as is the appearance of the Greek gods in the story.
On July 8, 2022, Thor: Love and Thunder will be premiered in theaters.
