
The Woman King, a new historical epic action thriller from Sony Pictures that is currently scheduled to hit theaters on September 16, has unveiled its making-of featurette.

The Woman King, starring Viola Davis, Lashana Lynch, Thuso Mbedu, Adrienne Warren, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Jayme Lawson, John Boyega, Sheila Atim, and others, iis based on true events that occurred in the Kingdom of Dahomey throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
Agojie is credited with serving as the model for the Dora Milaje, a unit of female warriors that protect Black Panther’s throne in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Director Gina Prince-Bythewood of The Old Guard is behind the camera for The Woman King, which she co-wrote with screenwriter Dana Stevens and is based on a story by Maria Bello. Cathy Schulman of Welle Entertainment is producing it alongside Davis and Julius Tennon of JuVee Productions. Additionally producing is Jack Blue Productions’ Maria Bello. For TriStar Pictures, Hannah Minghella and Nicole Brown will supervise.
