AMC’s Tales of the Walking Dead anthology’s newest installment will be no strange to fans of its parent series.
Samantha Morton, one of The Walking Dead‘s major villains, is returning to the show for its eleventh season as Alpha. As is the case with the majority of things surrounding Tales, the specifics of her backstory are being shrouded in secrecy.
Tales of The Walking Dead, which is scheduled to premiere this summer, is a six-episode standalone story collection featuring a mix of new and recurring characters from the TWD universe. Morton is the show’s first returning actor; the cast also includes Terry Crews, Jillian Bell, Parker Posey, Poppy Liu, Danny Ramirez, Anthony Edwards, Loan Chabanol, and Embeth Davidtz, Olivia Munn, and Jessie T. Usher.
Tales has been ordered to series by AMC for October 2021; it will be the network’s third Walking Dead spinoff, after Fear the Walking Dead and the two-season World Beyond. In between the second and third parts of the parent show’s 11th and last season, the anthology will air this summer.
Channing Powell, a writer, and producer on The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, will executive produce Tales with Scott M. Gimple, AMC’s chief creative officer for the Walking Dead Universe. Three of the six episodes will be helmed by series producer and franchise veteran Michael Satrazemis; the other three will be directed by Deborah Kampmeier (Star Trek: Discovery), Haifaa al-Mansour (The Good Lord Bird), and Tara Nicole Weyr (The Wilds, Fear the Walking Dead).
