The Trailer For Adam McKay’s Political Dark Comedy ‘Don’t Look Up,’ starring Leo DiCaprio And Jennifer Lawrence, Has Been Released

Possible to cause hysterical giggles if it wasn’t genuinely feasible to occur.

The new trailer for Adam McKay‘s political dark comedy Don’t Look Up has just been out, and it’s amusing if this isn’t also how our government would handle a real-life incident that hasn’t happened. And with a cast like this, it’ll almost certainly be a contender for awards season. Don’t Look Up will be released in limited theaters on December 10 and will be available on Netflix on December 24.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Himesh Patel, Melanie Lynskey, Michael Chiklis, Tomer Sisley, Cate Blanchett, and Meryl Streep, and is directed by McKay and Kevin Messick. It is scored by Succession composer Nicholas Britell.

The trailer introduces DiCaprio and Lawrence (who play professor Randall Mindy and his grad student Kate, respectively) attempting to persuade the government to listen to science, and it hits near to home after the year we’ve had. How does this duo get others to pay attention to them you may ask? They get the information leaked to the public. And, in this digitized era, where anybody can spread information with a finger lift, the two take to news stations and social media to alert the world that an apocalypse is right at the door.

Don’t Look Up is eerily similar to what we’ve come to expect from McKay. McKay has a way of making people care about what he’s saying via humor no matter how disturbing it might get, whether it’s attacking major banks in The Big Short or just two families trying to make it work with their adult sons who adore John Stamos in Step Brothers. (I’m referring to you, Vice.)

Don’t Look Up might be just fun and games for now, but what a better way to start the Christmas season – by contemplating your own mortality! The film will premiere in select cinemas on December 10 before being released on Netflix on December 24. Take a look at the new trailer and poster below the jump:

Here are some insightful notes about Don’t Look Up:

An astronomy graduate student, Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence),  and her
professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make once in a lifetime
discovery of a comet circling within the solar system. The issue is that it is on a collision trajectory with Earth. The real problem? Nobody seems to bother. Warning humanity about a planet-killer the scale of Mount Everest turns out to be too much of a challenge to negotiate. Kate and Randall embark on a media
tour with the aid of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), which takes them from the office of a nonchalant Madam President - Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her obsequious son aka Chief of Staff, Jason (Jonah Hill), to the airwaves of The Daily Rip,
an uplifting morning show hosted by Brie (Cate Blanchett) and Jack (Jonah Hill) (Tyler Perry). With just six months until the comet makes landfall, navigating the 24-hour news cycle and capturing the eye of the social media-obsessed
public before it becomes too late proves hilarious – what will it take to get
the whole globe to just ‘look up’?!
DON’T LOOK UP is written and directed by Academy Award winner Adam McKay (The
Big Short) and also stars Mark Rylance, Ron Perlman, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi), Himesh Patel, Melanie Lynskey, Michael
    Chiklis, and Tomer Sisley.
