The latest trailer for Top Gun: Maverick, the highly awaited sequel to the 1986 Cold War thriller that catapulted Tom Cruise to stardom, has just been released. Cruise’s Maverick, now a high-flying test pilot and instructor, returns in this aviation action thriller.
Returning as Iceman (in a blink-and-you-miss-it picture cameo in the current teaser) is Val Kilmer, while newcomer Miles Teller plays Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s late buddy, Nick Bradshaw (“Goose,” played in Top Gun by Anthony Edwards). Maverick is forced to confront his unstable history, as well as his “deepest anxieties” — with the entrance of Rooster.
The trailer itself provides us a decent idea of the high level of action on display, as well as the tensions between Maverick and Rooster, and a strong hint that the pilots, both new and experienced, will be flying into some very real, very chaotic fighting.

Jennifer Connelly, Mad Men favorite Jon Hamm, Danny Ramirez, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, Jay Ellis, Monica Barbaro, Glen Powell, Raymond Lee, Charles Parnell, Manny Jacinto, Bashir Salahuddin, Jake Picking, and Jean Louisa Kelly are among the all-star Hollywood additions in Top Gun: Maverick, directed by Joseph Kosinski, who worked with Cruise on Oblivion. Ehren Kruger, Christopher McQuarrie, and Eric Warren Singer wrote the screenplay, while Peter Craig and Justin Marks wrote the story based on Jim Cash and Jack Epps, Jr.’s characters. Cruise, McQuarrie, Jerry Bruckheimer, and David Ellison produced the film, with Dana Goldberg, Tommy Harper, Chad Oman, Don Granger, and Mike Stenson executive producing.
