We got our first glimpse at The Girl from Plainville, a new Hulu series that will depict a true-crime event that occurred eight years ago in Massachusetts, back in January. Elle Fanning plays Michelle Carter in the narrative, a lady who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after sending a string of text messages that drove a youngster to commit suicide. Hulu revealed the series’ premiere date today.
It is widely known that The Girl from Plainville will be released in the spring, but Hulu has made it official by announcing that the first three episodes will be available on March 29th. Following that, the remaining five episodes will be released on the streaming site on a weekly basis. If you’re the binge-watching kind, this means you should be able to see the entire movie by May 3rd.
In addition to the premiere date, Hulu has released a teaser video for The Girl from Plainville. The teaser begins with a distressed Michelle entering her parents’ living room to inform them that Conrad Roy (played by Colton Ryan) had died, to which they respond, “Who’s Connor?”. The short teaser emphasizes how intimate and distanced Michelle and Conrad’s bond was, and it’s that contradiction that led to the final question in Michelle’s trial: can someone be urged to end their life through text messages?

Apart from Fanning and Ryan, the cast of The Girl from Plainville includes Chloe Sevigny (HBO’s Big Love) as Lynn Roy, Norbert Leo Butz (Netflix’s Bloodline), Kai Lennox (Green Room) as David Carter, Cara Buono (Stranger Things) as Gail Carteras Conrad Roy (the victim’s father), and Michael Mosley (Ozark).
Liz Hannah (Steven Spielberg’s The Post) and Patrick Macmanus (Apple TV+’s Dr. Death) co-wrote The Girl from Plainville and serve as co-showrunners. They borrowed the storyline from an Esquire piece by Jesse Barron, who disclosed an exceptional case that highlights how the justice system is trying to keep up with current times, with social media and texting constantly harming our mental health. Carter allegedly persuaded Conrad to commit suicide many times before his death.
On March 29th, Hulu will release the first three episodes of The Girl from Plainville. Following that, for the next five weeks, a new episode will be released weekly on the platform.
