The blockbuster from Illumination and Universal is just the fourth movie to reach the half-billion mark in North America since 2019.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has passed the $500 million barrier in North American theaters, marking yet another success for the blockbuster.
Only Spider-Man: No Way Home ($814.1 million), Avatar: The Way of Water ($683.9 million), and Top Gun: Maverick ($718.7 million) have made more domestically than the movie adaptation of the Nintendo video game from Illumination and Universal.
Additionally, it is the first cartoon film from Illumination and Universal to gross $500 million domestically without accounting for inflation. Additionally, it has the second-highest domestic box office earnings of any animated movie ever. In addition, it is the third-highest-grossing Universal release of all time, trailing only Jurassic World and E.T.
Super Mario Bros. broke multiple milestones since its release in mid-March, including becoming the first game of 2023 to pass $1 billion at the global box office, and it closed Thursday with $499.5 million in domestic ticket sales. It is also only the 10th animated movie to gross $1 billion worldwide.
