The trailer for Netflix’s impending feature Spiderhead, directed by Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joseph Kosinski and set to premiere on June 17th, was dropped today.
The darkly comedic psychological thriller is set in a cutting-edge jail ruled by Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth). In exchange for reduced sentences, inmates there are required to wear a device that is surgically attached device to their bodies that is capable of delivering mind-altering drugs. Neither bars nor orange jumpsuits nor cells are to be found here. In Spiderhead, volunteers in prison are free to be who they want to be, until such time as they are not.
Occasionally, they’re the superior version. Want to lighten up? There is medication for it. Don’t know what to say? There is also a medicine for it. But when Abnesti’s experiments begin to push the boundaries of free will, the path to the redemption of two subjects, Jeff (Miles Teller) and Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett), takes a twistier turn.
Spiderhead was adapted by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool) from the short tale “Escape from Spiderhead” by George Saunders published in The New Yorker. Producing the picture were Hemsworth, Reese, Eric Newman, Wernick, Agnes Chu, Tommy Harper, Geneva Wasserman, and Jeremy Steckler.
The trailer for the newest star-studded film from Kosinski is shown below.
