Originally named Jacob and the Sea Beast, the film was revealed in 2018 as Williams’ follow-up to his co-directing role on the Academy Award-winning Disney animated blockbuster Moana. Williams is one of a number of directors who have made the switch from Disney to Netflix in recent years, as the popular streaming service seeks to improve its animation sector. With recent Oscar-nominated films such as 2020’s Over The Moon and 2021’s The Mitchells vs. The Machines, Netflix has shown they can compete with the studio heavyweights. The Sea Beast will try to maintain the trend, even surpass it.
The Sea Beast will be available on Netflix on July 8th.
