
Horror fans seem to have a good year when SCREAM is considered as the first big blockbuster of 2022; furthermore, it appears that the genre continuously develops into February. It was just confirmed by LD Entertainment that Sean Ellis‘s The Cursed will be available in theaters next month, which is portrayed as a gothic thriller describing clearly the wicked underbelly of a once-sleepy isolated countryside village during the late 1800s, now possessed by something shady and twisted. Thanks to Ellis’ previous work, he gained Oscar and BAFTA nominations; additionally, he is easily recognized from Metro Manila or Cashback, and both of them have won awards from many film festivals.
The Cursed trailer sets the film’s tone in an incredibly good way and makes your heart drop beats. As curses are whispered under nervous music, the inciting incident of the film is illustrated. An investigator has visited a small village to look for a missing son of a family and discovers that all residents have to bear a curse upon the land. Supernatural elements and unnoticed horror of threats are mixed in the film in order to raise moderately the anxiety of an animal striking and terrorizing these people. The Cursed truly increases its audience’s heart rate when it shows several truly horrifying times of children being handicapped by the monster, many people squirming in pain, tormented screams, fire bodies, and some people being pulled into the river. For horror lovers, this one seems to be a must-see film, definitely drives you crazy.
Last year, The Cursed was first shown at Sundance Film Festival under the title Eight For Silver. Since then, Ellis has updated the film to create an absolutely new level of horror. These changes in the film were shared by the director since its first display.
We took the opportunity to invigorate the film with an updated score by Lorne Balfe; we changed much of the CGI and decided to put back much of the original in-camera effects. We also elevated elements of the story that pay tribute to the incredible multitude of layers that live within the horror genre.

The movie brings together a charming group of actors, led by Boyd Holbrook (Logan, Narcos) and famous Yellowstone sweetheart Kelly Reilly alongside Alistair Petrie (Sex Education). The Cursed cast also includes Roxane Duran, Nigel Betts, Stuart Bowman, Simon Kunz, Amelia Crouch, Max Mackintosh, and Tommy Rodger. The film is produced by Ellis, Mickey Liddell, and Pete Shilaimon, with Alison Semenza and Jacob Yakob working as executive producers.
