Disney is making a comeback to The Princess Diaries universe.

According to sources, the new Disney film by Aadrita Mukerji is not a reboot but rather a continuation of the Anne Hathaway-starring series of movies.
Despite publicly expressing her support for a third installment, Hathaway does not currently have a contract to return, but it is hoped that she will the potential new movie progress beyond the script stage.
Hathaway portrayed a teenage American girl who learns she is the heir apparent to the Genovian realm in the 2001 movie The Princess Diaries. The movie, starring Julie Andrews and based on a book by Meg Cabot, was a box office hit, earning $165.3 million globally. Hathaway returned for Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, which brought in $134.7 million globally in 2004. The two movies, which were both directed by the late Garry Marshall, are still significant works of popular culture.
Debra Martin Chase, who previously contributed to the first two Princess Diaries, is producing the upcoming film. The 2020 Disney+ movie Godmothered and the Cameron Diaz comedy The Other Woman‘s executive producer is Melissa Stack.
Screenwriter Mukerji has worked in the television industry for many years; his credits include Quantum Leap, Supergirl, Scorpion, and Reacher.
