Halle Bailey, together with composer Alan Menken, and others provide insights into the making of the new version of The Little Mermaid in a new video featurette from Disney.
The video examines how the 1989 animated film affected viewers and how Bailey, Menken, Miranda’s Lin-Manuel, Rob Marshall, and co-stars Awkwafina and Melissa McCarthy hoped to build on the universe of the original with this remake.

The Little Mermaid, a Disney animated film that generated over $211 million at the box office and became a hit on home video, helped make songs like “Under the Sea” and “Part of Your World” more well-known. The planned movie is based on the Hans Christian Andersen short story and the Ron Clements and John Musker Disney animated picture from 1989.
On May 26, 2023, The Little Mermaid is scheduled to make its debut.
