Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to Jason Momoa‘s forthcoming action picture The Executioner.

The Executioner is the tentative title for the project by The Eternals writers Kaz and Ryan Firpo. The plot is still shrouded in secrecy but it’s being touted as a fun action murder mystery in the vein of Knives Out meets The Lord of the Rings. As of yet, no director has been tapped.

The Executioner will be produced by Peter Safran, who previously collaborated with Momoa on Aquaman, with Warner Bros. EVP Jesse Eherman is also contributing to the project in some manner. In addition to serving as a producer on Aquaman, Safran has been involved in a number of Warner Bros. blockbuster releases in recent years, including the Conjuring franchise, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and others.
Momoa‘s schedule is about to become much busier, as he’s due to star in the forthcoming film Slumberland later this year, followed by Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom in 2023, as well as the Fast and Furious franchise’s tenth sequel, Fast X.
