Michael Giacchino‘s character theme for Zoe Kravitz‘s Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Batman has been published. The revival, written and directed by Matt Reeves, will feature Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. Inspired by comics such as Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli‘s Batman: Year One and Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale‘s Batman: The Long Halloween, The Batman picks up with Bruce Wayne in his second year as Gotham’s hero.
The picture also stars Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Lieutenant James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/Riddler, in addition to Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne/Batman and Kravitz’s Selina Kyle/Catwoman. The latter serial murderer will play the role of Batman’s major antagonist, as he stalks the city’s corrupt elites and leaves clues. Batman meets Selina Kyle, a waitress/part-time drug dealer who moonlights as a blossoming Catwoman while trying to find and unmask Riddler. After her roommate goes missing, Selina eventually agrees to cooperate with the Dark Knight.
As The Batman approaches its theatrical release, Warner Bros. (through WaterTower Music) has released the official Catwoman character score, which is available to stream on Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, YouTube, Deezer, and Tidal. The theme, composed by Giacchino, arrives just a few weeks after the studio introduced The Riddler’s tune, which came a fortnight after Batman’s. The Batman’s soundtrack concludes with the song. Take a look at the following:
Giacchino has written music for Pixar’s The Incredibles, Up, Doctor Strange, and the complete Spider-Man “Homecoming” trilogy directed by Jon Watts. For his work, the musician and composer have won several honors, including an Emmy, an Oscar, and three Grammys. Following in the footsteps of Hans Zimmer’s work on Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, Giacchino will have to live up to an almost unrivaled standard for Batman soundtracks. With strings and brass evocative of both Batman: The Animated Series and Burton’s Batman movie, Giacchino’s music appears to contain all the themes of a great Batman melody. With its use of the piano in juxtaposition to the ominous strings of the Batman and Riddler melodies, “Catwoman” is unquestionably Giacchino’s most elegant and shortest song, clocking in at just three minutes and four seconds.
Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, Anne Hathaway, and Camren Bicondova have all played Catwoman in live-action. Kravitz offers a unique perspective on the cat burglar in The Batman. The film will serve as her origin narrative, establishing her and Batman’s love/hate relationship as they fight Riddler’s minions and, on occasion, each other, according to the trailers. The Batman will inevitably lead to a sequel, as well as two HBO Max spinoffs focusing on the Gotham Police Department and the origins of the Penguin. The Batman might also lead to a Catwoman spinoff, depending on how well it does when it hits theaters next month.
