An official trailer has been dropped by Open Road Films for the Foo Fighters’ new bizarre horror-comedy ‘Studio 666’, in which Dave Grohl and his fellows move into a haunted rock-and-roll mansion. Things start to get weird the moment the crew settles for their tenth studio album, and Grohl, normally the sensible lead of the team, goes a little nuts after demons taunt and possess him.

The trailer features a deeper insight into the Foo Fighters’ recording preparation. The band love the mansion most of the time, thinking it is the right place for their tenth album, though they notice some issues such as a basement looking like a ritual site, scary dolls hanging from the trees and a sense of death in the air. As the band starts to record, things start to turn creepy: no one can focus on the album, their instruments are broken, shadow creatures start to show up out of view. It turns out the gruesome rock-and-roll mansion performs as a portal to hell. The creepiness peaks as Dave Grohl gets attacked and possessed by devils, making him “one flew over the cuckoo’s nest crazy” and murder-happy with his band members. The band has to cooperate to survive, bring Grohl back and complete the track.

‘Studio 666’ takes its premise from an original story of the band’s tenth album Medicine at Midnight. The mansion used in the movie is located in Encino, California, which was actually the place the Foo Fighters recorded the aforementioned album and a place Grohl believed to be haunted. When interviewed with NME, Grohl said that the band noticed bizarre occurrences during recording. Their instruments were out of tune and recording software was interfered with tracks deleted and new ones appearing filled with strange open mic noise. This experience gave him the inspiration for ‘Studio 666’, where the band had to confront the paranormal to survive.

In the movie, he added some more supernatural factors to honor ’80s and ’90s horror-comedies.

In the trailer, music fans also know they can expect to enjoy amazing cameos. This includes beloved balladeer Lionel Richie giving Grohl advice on writer’s block as well as Slayer’s composer and guitarist Kerry King giving the band a hand in moving the equipment into the mansion.
The movie, directed by BJ McDonnell, has its screenplay written by Jeff Buhler and Rebecca Hughes from an original story by Grohl. Beside The Foo Fighters, the executive producers of ‘Studio 666’ also include Wes Hagan, James Masciello, Tom Ortenberg, Matthew Sidari, John Silva, Gaby Skolnek, Kristen Welsh, and Mitchell Zhang.
