Star Wars enthusiasts can now trace the whole history of the galaxy far, far away thanks to a new visual guidebook.
Star Wars: Timelines, authored by Kristin Baver, Jason Fry, Cory Horton, Amy Richau, and Clayton Sandell, will be released in November by DK. According to StarWars.com, the book will span crucial periods in the Star Wars world, from before the High Republic Era until the conclusion of the sequel trilogy with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Horton described what it was like to organize the entire timeframe.

“The time and effort it took to study and write Star Wars: Timelines was unlike any other book I’ve ever written,” Horton stated. “With so many stories told over the decades and through many mediums, these timelines are an ideal way to illustrate the connected, epic nature of Star Wars storytelling.”
Timelines claims to cover not just the events of the Skywalker saga’s films, but also those of the universe’s live-action and animated shows, novels, comic books, and video games.
The cover shows the comic Star Wars: The High Republic #1, Grogu and Boba Fett from The Mandalorian, Rey and Kylo Ren from the second trilogy, and more from the Disney-led era of Star Wars and the original films. The essay, however, begs the issue of whether the now-decanonized Star Wars past will be studied in any way.
Many products, ranging from novels to video games, were deemed canon when Disney purchased Lucasfilm and took over the property and formed part of the Legends series of stories set inside the world. Timelines will investigate “many branching timelines,” according to the article, so it’s unclear if fan favorites like Darth Revan from The Old Republic and Starkiller from The Force Unleashed would be addressed as part of an alternate chronology. Baver, on the other hand, has spoken about how difficult it was for the designers to tie together the entire timeframe.

“I first gained a real appreciation for the way events across all kinds of Star Wars storytelling intertwine when I was writing Skywalker: A Family at War in 2020, but that was just scratching the surface compared to this project,” said Baker in the interview. “It’s a thrill to be working with such an accomplished crew of writers to take on this Summa-verminoth-sized job. And it’s opened my eyes to so many of the intricacies that make these stories come alive and give the galaxy that expansive, lived-in feel.
