
Paramount is reuniting the Enterprise gang. No, not the cast of the 1960s television series did change, but the cast of the J.J. Abrams reboot, which premiered in 2009 and went on to star in two further films.
The news was made Tuesday at Paramount’s investor’s presentation by Paramount executive Brian Robbins and producer J.J. Abrams, although specifics were not disclosed. While no deals have been reached, Paramount intends to welcome back Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldaa, and John Cho, who have appeared in three films since 2009’s Star Trek.
The Enterprise crew will be reunited soon by Paramount. The cast of the J.J. Abrams reboot, which premiered in 2009 and has since starred in two films, is not the one from the 1960s serial turned film series.

The Paramount hopes returning actors Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldaa, and John Cho, who has appeared in three films starting with 2009’s Star Trek, would sign terms, but no deals have yet been reached. Script rewrites are being done by Josh Friedman and Cameron Squires on a script written by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Matt Shakman, the director of WandaVision, will helm the next installment in the Star Trek franchise.
Since the early 2000s, Trek has mostly been confined to the small screen, with various streaming series on Paramount+, such as Star Trek Discovery and Picard, among others. During Parmount’s investor day, company executives stated that the company was focused on creating franchises that could be enjoyed both on the Paramount+ streaming series and on the big screen. Other projects announced included a third Sonic the Hedgehog film and an animated TV series starring Idris Elba as Knuckles. A Quiet Place Part III, directed by John Krasinski, will be released in 2025, according to the filmmaker. The next film will be released in theaters on December 22, 2023.
