In July, Chris Hemsworth will return to the role of Thor in the film Thor: Love and Thunder, but before, the actor will land a role in the upcoming Netflix criminal thriller Spiderhead.

The state-of-the-art penitentiary operated by the genius Steve Abnesti (Hemsworth) in Spiderhead is nothing like your normal jail. There are no bars, no cells, and no orange jumpsuits, which allows convicts to be themselves… until they aren’t. Convicts have the option of serving their whole sentence or opting for a commutation in return for participation in an experimental drug-testing program. If they choose the latter, the jailed volunteers are required to wear a surgically implanted gadget that dispenses doses of mind-altering medicines. The convicts are pushed to their limits by Abnesti’s bizarre experiments, which put their free will to the test. However, when two subjects, Jeff (Miles Teller) and Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett), create a bond between themselves, they join together to rescue one another.

Filmed by Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy, Top Gun: Maverick), Escape from Spiderhead is a genre-bending psychological thriller based on George Saunders’ short tale that appeared in The New Yorker. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the screenplay (Deadpool, Zombieland). Spiderhead premiering on June 17th promises mind games and an astonishing collection of Chris Hemsworth’s spectacles.
