In a new Spider-Man: No Way Home behind-the-scenes video, Zendaya talks about her emotional connection to Peter Parker. There was little doubt that Spider-Man: No Way Home would be a smash before its release, but few could have imagined how enormous it would become. No Way Home has amassed an incredible $1.89 billion worldwide total after having the second-highest opening weekend of all time in December. That’s on top of positive reviews from both fans and reviewers; there was even speculation that No Way Home would be nominated for an Academy Award.
It only received a nomination for outstanding special effects in the end, but it’s safe to say that the film has sealed its place in cinematic history. Because Spider-Man: No Way Home is based on a multiverse idea, characters from pre-MCU Spider-Man franchises can enter the blockbuster universe. The film picks up where Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker left off in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, with the action focusing primarily on him. Peter seeks support from his closest allies, especially Zendaya’s Michelle “MJ” Jones, as he grapples with the repercussions of having his identity disclosed to the public.
In a new Spider-Man: No Way Home behind-the-scenes film published online by Sony Pictures Entertainment, Zendaya takes center stage. The Euphoria actress admits that Spider-Man has always been her favorite superhero, especially because she understands his challenges with maintaining a hidden identity. Zendaya then discusses Michael Jackson and Peter Gabriel‘s blossoming connection, describing how it has revealed a new side of the prickly and cynical MJ. Take a glance at the video below.
Zendaya has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s Spider-Man franchise since 2017’s Homecoming, but her first appearance was unexpectedly little. She has, however, become one of the most important persons in Peter’s life throughout the course of the three films, and her role in the No Way Home finale made the picture considerably more poignant than it already was. MJ has had a significant impact on Peter’s life, but as Zendaya stated in the video above, the opposite is also true.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is already working on Spider-Man 4, and it’s unclear whether Zendaya will be called back. Given the state of affairs after No Way Home, one can only hope that MJ and Peter will be reunited onscreen. But even if that doesn’t happen, Zendaya has three fantastic opportunities to be a part of stories about a character she adores. Zendaya and MJ have both been fantastic additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and as Spider-Man: No Way Home shown, they have forever altered Peter Parker’s journey.
