
JJ Abrams is attached to the production of a brand-new live-action Speed Racer series which is getting underway for Apple TV Plus.
In the United States, Speed Racer is a well-known anime series, and the Wachowskis’ live-action film adaptation of the series is revered as a cult classic. J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot are reported to work on bringing the IP back to life on Apple TV Plus.
The live-action adaptation of Speed Racer will have J.J. Abrams on board as an executive producer, while Ron Fitzgerald and Hiram Martinez have been tapped to script and executive produce the show. In light of the big deal that Abrams struck, Warner Bros. Television will be behind the series production. Notable among Abrams’s other projects with Warner Bros. are reboots of the television series Superman and Constantine.
Wachowski Sisters serves as the director and writer of the series, which stars Emile Hirsch, Matthew Fox, Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon, John Goodman, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rain, Benno Fürmann, and Richard Roundtree.
