Sony has moved back Madame Web from the summer of 2023 to the autumn. The release date for the Spider-Man spinoff starring Dakota Johnson is now October 6, 2023. In the meanwhile, Insidious 5, helmed by actor Patrick Wilson, will replace Madame Web on July 7, 2023.
Madame Web is perhaps the most prominent of Sony’s forthcoming Spider-Man spinoffs, featuring Sydney Sweeney, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott in the ensemble. The project is helmed by S.J. Clarkson and is based on the comic book concept of a mutant clairvoyant who specializes in projecting the future of Spider-themed superheroes.
In addition, Sony moved the release date of The Pope’s Exorcist to April 7th, 2023, as part of their dated adjustments. Overlord director Julius Avery is behind the Screen Gems movie, which is inspired by the life of late Italian priest Father Gabriele Amorth, who conducted more than 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican.
A Man Called Otto, starring Tom Hanks and produced by Columbia Pictures, was rescheduled from Christmas to December 14, 2022, while 65, starring Adam Driver and written by A Quiet Place’s Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, was pushed back two weeks to April 28, 2023. Sony also shifted an untitled Marvel picture to June 7, 2024 (back from Oct. 6, 2023).
In addition to Madame Web, Sony is developing a third Venom picture starring Tom Hardy and has cast Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kraven the Hunter.
