The first reviews are in for the eagerly anticipated Shazam! sequel, which opens in theaters tomorrow. Based on 77 reviews, Shazam! Fury of the Gods currently has a 62% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Even though it may not be the best rating, the most recent DC Universe movie is still recommended for viewing.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is “more unfocused and less satisfying than its predecessor,” according to the consensus of the critics. It does “retain enough of the ridiculous humor of the source material to redeem the day,” though. Several critics who have complimented the film’s lighter and entertaining tone, despite some of its flaws, seem to agree with this viewpoint.
Together with Shazam! Fury of the Gods, all four DC Universe films are expected to be released this year. The Flash, Blue Beetle, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are all at varying phases of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery.
David F. Sandberg directed Shazam! Fury of the Gods, was based on a script by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan. The movie stars Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Marta Millans, Cooper Andrews, Djimon Hounsou, Rachel Zegler, Lucy Liu, and Helen Mirren in addition to Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, D.J. Cotrona, Grace Caroline Currey, and Faithe Herman.
