In recently released stills from The Book of Boba Fett, Mando shows off his Darksaber prowess.
During Episode 5 of The Book of Boba Fett, Disney+ released new pictures of Din Djarin holding the Darksaber in his return to the Star Wars universe. The first still depicts Mando hitting Paz Vizsla with the mighty saber as the two struggled for control of the mythic blade. Din is on the defensive in the second one, kneeling and blocking one of the Armorer’s assaults during the pair’s previous training session.

The show diverted from Boba Fett’s plot in “Chapter 5: The Return of the Mandalorian” and instead centered on Din. Din hunts for the Armorer and Paz’s underground location after clumsily collecting a bounty with the Darksaber. The Armorer teaches him about Mandalore’s past and indicates that he has trouble using the weapon because he is fighting against it rather than with it.
Moff Gideon‘s usage of the Darksaber in Season 1 of The Mandalorian has a long history. It’s been seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, and it has a lot of symbolism behind it. Tar Vizsla, the first Mandalorian accepted into the Jedi Temple, built it, and it remained there until House Vizsla seized it after his death. It was then handed down the Vizsla generational line, with whomever held it becoming Mandalore’s leader. Darth Maul violated the ritual when he seized the Darksaber and killed Pre Vizsla in exchange, proclaiming him the new leader of Mandalore.
Sabine Wren took the sword and practiced with it before turning it back to Bo-Katan Kryze, implying that the latter did not win the combat. Moff Gideon seized custody of the sword when Bo-Katan lost it at some time in the following decades.
When Season 3 of The Mandalorian premieres, fans may expect a reunion between Bo-Katan Kryze and Mando. In Season 2 of The Mandalorian, she attempted to beat Moff Gideon and regain the blade for herself, but Din won the sword from the Imperial. The Armorer dubbed Bo-Katan a dire warning because she didn’t win the Darksaber in a fight the first time around, even blaming her deeds for Mandalore’s demise. Whatever the case may be, the saga of the Darksaber is far from done.
The first season of The Book of Boba Fett is presently available to watch on Disney+.
