Prey Becomes One of The Best Entries in the “Predator” Franchise According to Initial Reviews

Prey‘s initial reviews have surfaced online, and they give the Predator prequel a very favorable impression.

The movie has received high praise from reviewers who believe it to be the finest Predator franchise installment overall. Prey, set in the Comanche country, occurs around 300 years before Predator. It features Naru, played by Amber Midthunder, battling a Predator as she seeks to establish her hunting prowess.

The suspenseful movie, which also features a more ape-like Predator, has obviously impressed its early viewers. See the initial reactions below:

Very excited to have seen #Prey ahead of its release! A deeply atmospheric, suspense-heavy film that makes the most of the wilderness offered up by its pre-colonial setting. Huge portions of this film feature little-to-no dialogue, resulting in magnificent visual storytelling. pic.twitter.com/LYhBFdBsdf

#PreyMovie #prey hey I can see myself. What a movie though. I want to watch it 10 more times https://t.co/C9pNJRDVzH

We were lucky enough to get a break from the #SDCC madness last night and see the new Predator movie #PREY by @DannyTRS thanks to @hulu & @Collider.
It's an absolute ripper and delivers on every level, this should be in theatres.
The score by @SarahSchachner is aces. Loved it. pic.twitter.com/ejc9roffZx

Oh, hey, the #Prey embargo lifted. I loved this movie! It's so cool. Delivers really great and exciting action sequences featuring a badass Predator vs. an awesome Amber Midthunder. Totally makes the most of its premise and easily the best Predator movie since the original. pic.twitter.com/Zn6XvNRAoF

#Prey is one of the best entries in the Predator franchise. Distinctly different from its predecessors, PREY still captures the spirit of the films while also featuring an unexpected hero that's easy to root for. Visually stunning and intensely violent, prepare for heads to roll. pic.twitter.com/zZw9jNqARi

#Prey arguably stands up-to-par with Predator. Pacing issues aside, it delivers on the one thing fans expect the most from this franchise, bloody action-packed fight scenes. But what stood out for me the most was seeing a strong female lead kick ass. @AmberMidthunder was superb. pic.twitter.com/8NFFcR1lty

Ive said this to several people since seeing #Prey…. I FUCKING LOVED THIS MOVIE!! I love the first #Predator movie, nostalgia place in my heart for Predator 2, liked Predators, didn’t like last one, BUT THIS ONE – Easily The Best Since The Original. Knocked it out the park pic.twitter.com/qPYHT7yQtU

Dan Trachtenberg, the filmmaker of Prey, has rightfully received praise for his inventive reworking of the Predator plot. The character of Naru has also gained popularity with viewers. She is the protagonist of this minimalist interpretation of Predator legend and spends a significant amount of time exploring the woods by herself.

It appears that Prey has already established itself as a smash hit with early audiences, as seen by the standing ovation it earned at its debut showing at San Diego Comic-Con last night.

Prey is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and features Amber Midthunder, Michelle Thrush, Stormee Kipp, Dakota Beavers, and Julian Black Antelope. The movie was written by Patrick Aison.

On August 5, 2022, Prey will begin streaming exclusively on Hulu.
