Detective Pikachu from the Pokemon live-action series was launched in 2019 to great success, earning more than $400 million. The fact that the popular property is still being enjoyed by viewers and admirers throughout the world proves that it still has their love and support.
Although the producers have stated that they are already working on a follow-up due to the success of the first movie, we have yet to hear any updates about it despite its highly positive reviews. Is it still taking place? Will Ryan Reynolds continue to voice Pikachu?
According to a recent report, a representative from Legendary Pictures, one of the film’s production firms, told them that the movie is still in “active development,” albeit they omitted to name the major creative contributors.
Oren Uziel was previously hired to write the script for the sequel, however, a spokeswoman for him asserted that he is no longer working on it despite having already completed a draft and the outline for it.
Even though the most recent project update may be unclear, it is encouraging to know that it is still being worked on. If they were able to overcome their development process roadblock, we can expect a potential follow-up in a few years.
Naturally, there is also a possibility that the filmmakers will opt to halt further production and abandon any plans for the sequel, especially given that the first movie has been out for a few years and that the audience may have lost interest by that point.
