Our Flag Means Death fans are treated to further behind-the-scenes shots of the actors, this time of Taika Waititi directing the pilot. While Waititi left an impressive mark on the audience with his portrayal of Blackbeard, he also served as executive producer and director for Our Flag Means Death. While Waititi concentrated on starring opposite Rhys Darby (Stede Bonnet), the series had many directors, including Bert and Bertie, who are most recognized for their work on the Disney+ series Hawkeye.
On Twitter, images of Waititi directing the pilot episode of Our Flag Means Death were dropped. The photographs depict his hands-on approach to the episode, in which he changes props and interacts with actors to get the greatest conclusion possible, alternating between serious and humorous emotions, much like his role. While Waititi is not portraying Blackbeard in this film, he may have been practicing in the outfit, since one picture shows Waititi directing with a blade hooked to his hip. The series has notched up a phenomenal success, swiftly rising to become the most popular new series in the United States across all streaming platforms and ranking as the 11th most in-demand show worldwide. Episode 1 establishes the tone for the whole series and is notable for showcasing Waititi‘s brand of awkward comedy. With less than a month after the show’s debut, fans are already waiting with bated breath for news of an unconfirmed second season, and creator David Jenkins also seems to pin for it. For the time being, fans won’t have to wait long to witness more of Waititi‘s directing in action, as he is currently working on many forthcoming projects, including Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Ragnarok 2.
