
The four-part animated event Oni: Thunder God’s Tale is coming to Netflix, and we just got our first peek at it! This morning, a teaser and casting announcement was released showcasing a universe of Japanese mythology-inspired little gods and monsters that seems to be an exciting new adventure for the world of Netflix animation.
Oni: Thunder God’s Tale stars Archie Yates, Momona Tamada, Tantoo Cardinal, Craig Robinson, Brittany Ishibashi, Miyuki Sawashiro, Omar Miller, Yuki Matsuzaki, Anna Akana, Charlet Takahashi Chung, Seth Carr, Robert Kondo, and iconic ‘Star Trek’ star George Takei.
In addition to Robert Kondo and Kang Lee, Tsutsumi is also on board as an executive producer. Sara K. Sampson is in charge of production. The new trailer reveals that the series is a love letter to the mythology that creators Tsutsumi and Mari Okada are bringing to life. It’s a new age for Netflix in terms of their lineup of animated projects, but it’s evident from the teaser trailer that Oni: Thunder God’s Tale is a beautiful love story to this mythology, and that both Tsutsumi and Okada are passionate about the tale they’re telling.
