The first complete trailer for Jordan Peele‘s next horror film, Nope, has been released.
The first trailer for Nope was released early on Sunday, February 13th, prior to the Super Bowl. Universal Pictures earlier teased the debut of Nope’s first teaser, which included a brief first-look video of Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yuen, among the film’s core characters. Michael Wincott, Barbie Ferreira, and Brandon Perea will also turn up the film.
Nope is Jordan Peele‘s third horror film, after the highly successful psychological horror films Get Out (2017) and Us (2019), both of which starred Kaluuya. Before the debut trailer, there was little information about the narrative of Nope, with Peele only sharing a teaser poster for the film that featured a lone rain cloud with a kite tail hanging above a tiny valley village.
Universal Pictures had previously issued a teaser that featured the film’s stars staring up at the sky, but nothing further was revealed.
In February 2021, Kaluuya and Palmer were cast in the picture, and principal filming on Nope began a few months later, in July 2021.
Following his success as one half of the comedic duo Key & Peele, with longtime friend and co-star Keegan-Michael Key, Peele made his directorial debut with Get Out in 2017.
Peele went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Get Out at the 90th Academy Awards, while Kaluuya was nominated for Best Actor. Get Out with Us, which starred Lupita Nyong’o and was likewise a box office triumph.
Peele has publicly indicated that he is no longer interested in performing and instead prefers to write, direct, and produce films as the CEO of Monkeypaw Productions. He was most recently a producer on Nia DaCosta’s upcoming remake of Candyman, as well as the remake of Wes Craven’s 1991 horror parody The People Under the Stairs. “I can watch the films I create,” Peele remarked,”[but] watching me perform just feels like, it’s a bad kind of masturbatory. It’s masturbation you don’t enjoy”
Nope will be released on July 22.
