According to an exclusive Deadline source, Christina Ricci, who played the wonderfully morbid Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family and The Addams Family Values, will be returning to the family estate. According to a recent source, Ricci will be joining Tim Burton’s highly awaited Netflix series, Wednesday, while the specifics of her character remain unknown.
Jenna Ortega, a rising scream queen who recently played in the A24 slasher films X and Scream 5, is poised to play the titular Wednesday Addams in the series. According to a new report from Deadline, Ricci will not reprise her role as Wednesday in any way. Instead, Ricci will take on a new job, one that is comparable to Thora Birch’s on the show. Birch, on the other hand, has subsequently left the project due to personal concerns. At the distant and eerie Nevermore Academy, Birch was set to play Wednesday’s dorm mother. Ricci‘s character will be different from Burch’s, yet it will be comparable.
The series is supposed to be a coming-of-age story, focusing on Ortega’s Wednesday as she progresses through Nevermore Academy, uncovering mysteries throughout her time there. Morticia Addams is played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Gomez Addams is played by Luis Guzmán.

Ricci‘s return to the Addams Family is undoubtedly welcome. Ricci‘s inclusion was one of the numerous fan demands made when news of Burton’s adaption of the property was initially released. Many millennials’ aesthetic choices and global perspectives have been tinted (or tarnished) by her time as Wednesday. Ricci‘s ability to deliver deadpan (emphasis on the dead) humor set her apart in two films crowded with some of comedy’s most lively actors at the time. This part follows Ricci‘s appearance in Showtime’s Yellowjackets, in which she plays a lead character. The series follows a group of young girls who are stuck in the Ontario woodlands following an aircraft accident and must fight for survival. She will be back for Season 2 of the show. Ricci recently appeared in the sequel to Matrix: Resurrections.
Wednesday will have eight episodes in its first season. Netflix will be the only place where you can see the series. Although no official launch date has been determined, the series is scheduled to air in 2022.
