“Meg 2: The Trench” will be directed by the renowned director – Ben Wheatley, who replaces Jon Turteltaub – the first film’s director. The new movie will see the main characters of the previous one “The Meg”, including Jason Statham and Li Bingbing. “Meg 2: The Trench”, along with the first film in the series, are based on the Steve Alten sci-fi thriller book series of the same name, which follows Jonas Taylor on his undersea close encounters with ancient sharks. The majority of viewers suggested that “The Meg” achieved a lot of success when it was released in 2018 and then took in over $500 million at the box office. Moreover, the movie also received a lot of compliments from horror and science fiction fans even though there were also some shortcomings in the movie.

According to KFTV, the sequel to the underwater monster movie “The Meg” will start to shoot next week. Its predecessor, “The Meg” (2018), was filmed primarily in Auckland, New Zealand in the warmer climates. Meanwhile, the production of “Meg 2: The Trench” will take place at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in the UK. The movie is planned to be filmed until May and the crew will make use of the studio’s two water tanks.

In terms of the director, Wheatley has previously worked on famous thrillers such as Kill List or Free Fire. These movies gained much certain success when they’re released, at the same time, they also proved Wheatley as an incredible filmmaker. Therefore, he might be the best choice to take the franchise in the direction it needs to go, as well as solving The Meg‘s biggest issue, which is the lack of focus. When revealing the image of the thumbs up from Alten on the reported darker tones of the script, the director simultaneously gave the media and fans some suggestions of big-action and potential multiple megalodons in the new movie. With some information has been provided so far, it seems that the film will be in safe hands. However, no release date has yet been set for “Meg 2: The Trench”.
