In the contest for the 2022 box office, Top Gun: Maverick outperforms three Marvel films.

The Marvel movie franchise has always dominated the box office, if not the first. Despite having three movies this year, the MCU is still a distant third behind Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World: Dominion (number two). With the exception of 2022, the superhero franchise created by Kevin Feige has consistently ranked as one of the top two global-grossing films of the year.
Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World: Dominion are leading the global box office in 2022, respectively, according to Box Office Mojo by IMDb Pro. Thor: Love and Thunder is ranked ninth, followed by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness from Marvel.
Despite widespread skepticism, Illuminations’ Minions: The Rise of Gru, which is ranked fifth, and James Cameron‘s most anticipated sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, which is now in fourth place at the box office, managed to do better than the two most recent MCU films.
Avatar: The Way of Water just surpassed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to occupy the third position, and it is shortly anticipated that it will surpass Jurassic World: Dominion to claim second place. Even for MCU devotees, Phase 4’s underwhelming box office performance indicates that Marvel is experiencing box office problems.
Since the 2008 debut of Iron Man, Marvel has seemed to be very impenetrable. Both moviegoers and comic book fans have embraced the MCU, catapulting picture after the film to the top of the box office.
Marvel consistently did well at the box office in the ten years from 2012 to 2021. They were only removed from the list in 2020 because the epidemic caused them to delay their launches. Before 2022, Marvel enjoyed a sustained period of box office dominance, with Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War tying for top place in 2018, Avengers: Endgame taking first place in 2019, and Spider-Man: No Way Home taking first place in 2021.
