Following their premiere on Starz, Lionsgate and Roku have agreed to provide the studio’s feature films an exclusive streaming run on the free, ad-supported Roku Channel.
Beginning this year, the multi-year output agreement encompasses theatrical releases.
Lionsgate titles will be available on the Roku Channel in two periods, the first of which will follow their exclusive Starz runs and the second of which will be non-exclusive.
The Roku Channel has grown in popularity thanks to a suite of unique episodic and cinematic titles, and Roku has already reached 60 million active accounts. The Roku Channel, which launched in 2017, offers more than 275 live, linear channels as well as 80,000+ on-demand film and serial options. It was reaching households with 80 million individuals by the end of 2021.
The John Wick action franchise, Expendables 4 and Borderlands will all be part of the new distribution setup. Borderlands stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jack Black and is directed by Eli Roth. Are You There, God? is another title. It’s Me, Margaret is a follow-up to 2017’s Wonder and Nicolas Cage‘s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which was released earlier this month.
