It’s showtime, so unwind and enjoy! Hulu has published a teaser video for their forthcoming documentary series Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers. The film covers the growth of the “showtime” period of basketball under the control of real estate tycoon Dr. Jerry Buss.
The ten-part docuseries depicts the changes Buss introduced to the Lakers that significantly influenced how we enjoy basketball today: music, celebrity supporters, and the Laker girls. Under Buss’s leadership, the Lakers evolved from a basketball team to a full-fledged spectacle. However, as the movie demonstrates, the quick ascension also brings with it the “business of basketball.” Bass handled the team like a family business, generating competition among his children over who would carry on the heritage, something Mark Cuban refers to as “the real-life Succession.”

In addition to Cuban and the Buss family, the documentary includes historical footage of interviews with Shaquille O’Neal, Magic Johnson, Rob Lowe, LeBron James, Jeanie Buss, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and the late Kobe Bryant, among many other iconic personalities from the Lakers’ storied history. Jeanie Buss, the Lakers’ CEO and controlling owner, executive produced the docuseries.
Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers does not yet have a publication date. Meanwhile, you can enjoy the trailer below:
