As said by actor Karen Gillan, director James Gunn brings the “indie spirit” to the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. As a long-committed face in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Gillan gained a lot of compliments when playing the cyborg Nebula in blue, who was the main actor in both GOTG films and the Avengers’ Infinity Saga. Gillan is now filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which was planned to release in May 2023.
Gunn, the writer, and director of the previous two films also come back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after he originally got out of the franchise by Disney following GOTG 2 because of the controversial mentions he posted in the past resurfaced online. Eventually, he was employed again by Disney in 2019 to come back in another Guardian of the Galaxy movie. With Gunn’s directing and all primary actors returning, GOTG 3 is anticipated to complete the Guardians trilogy as the conclusive movie in the series.
Gillan also spends time advertising for her latest product Dual, together with co-star Aaron Paul while she is filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Lately, Gillan was invited with Paul by IMDb to “Ask Each Other Anything” which is considered as a part of an ongoing interview of celebrities. Paul took the chance to question Gallan about Guardians, especially how she feels when working with director Gunn. As stated by Gillan, with a huge budget and incredible quality as Marvel movies, Gunn has a method to return the film production to the earth.
Gillan said:
“What James Gunn brings to it is this real indie spirit … you’re not so aware that you’re making a giant movie. It’s like, it feels as loose and free and as flexible as an indie can feel sometimes … And he always directs with a microphone. And so you’re always just getting this like, booming voice from God essentially. He’s like, ‘Do it again. Do it like this.’ And then he, like, throws out lines that aren’t even in the script. ‘Call him this, do this.’ And then you literally hear him laughing over the microphone, which is also maybe the best feeling ever, too. Like, ‘Yes, I made him laugh.'”

The tone of the Guardians of the Galaxy films is mirrored appropriately thanks to the free-spirited style of Gunn’s directorship while these films have always brought a sense of unruliness suitable for its dysfunctional group of heroes. At least from a public-facing perspective, it seems that the cast is eager to work with Gunn again; furthermore, Gillan’s comments reveal that the atmosphere on the set has been nice so far. Apart from some unpredicted difficulties or a COVID-19 outbreak, considering Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as an example, Guardians 3 seems to be filming steadily.
Although there has not been much information about GOTG 3‘s plot, Marvel has shown some details which hopefully raise the level of excitement. For comic book Adam Warlock fans, this character will be brought to the MCU and starred by Will Poulter. Moreover, Chukwudi Iwuji of Peacemaker is desired to star as “extremely powerful,” which has not been named yet. There are also some conjectures about the main character’s death. Thanks to the information above, there are plenty of reasons for fans to hope even though Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the last adventure of Guardians.
