This year saw the return of the summer blockbuster season, with Jurassic World Dominion being one of the major box office successes. Even though the supposedly concluding installment of the Jurassic Park story has been available for more than a month, viewers aren’t quite done with seeing dinosaurs roam the planet. Dominion has already earned more than $900 million globally after reaching $543 million domestically this past weekend. In addition, the movie is anticipated to overtake Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness this week and take second place in 2022’s box office rankings. It will thereafter trail only Top Gun: Maverick, the reigning box office king in 2022.
China has been a major contributor to the success of this prehistoric sequel, adding another $2.8 million this weekend to bring its total in the area to $150 million. This is all the more astounding when you consider that 26 percent of Chinese cinemas are still shuttered due to the ongoing epidemic. Dominion is also doing well in Germany, where it earned $20.8 million in its sixth weekend of release. That is comparable to Fallen Kingdom in the same period. Other notable countries are France, Australia, the UK and Ireland, and Spain, where the sixth-weekend sales were $26.6 million, $24.2 million, $39.4 million, and $16.2 million, respectively. Dominion joined Universal’s Top 10 Releases of All Time in Australia, and at this time, Fallen Kingdom is barely behind it in the UK and Ireland’s overall box office. This weekend’s box office in Mexico was $42.7 million, which is already more than the sum for the two prior movies.
