Warner Bros. will be eligible for tax credits for the Los Angeles filming of Joker: Folie à Deux.

The avant-garde of the first Joker movie adaptation earned it multiple Oscar victories. The grittier nature of Joker, with New York City standing in for Gotham City and playing a significant part in delivering the film’s darker tone, was one of the aspects that set it apart from the rest of the crowded landscape of comic book movies.
The news was announced on Monday by the California Film Commission that Joker: Folie à Deux would be shooting in the city of Los Angeles, with the beginning of the main filming anticipated to take place in December. It is still unknown whether or not Los Angeles will impersonate Gotham City this time. It wouldn’t be the first time, however, as the Birds of Prey movie turned Los Angeles into Gotham.
Joker: Folie à Deux is supposed to take place at Arkham Asylum, therefore a significant portion of Gotham may not appear as heavily this time around. Warner Bros. will receive tax credits of $12,6 million for the primary filming of the sequel in Los Angeles.
Joker: Folie à Deux is set to release on October 4, 2024.
