After the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery, the company’s DC properties will get a new approach under the leadership of new CEO David Zaslav. Leslie Grace’s Batgirl has been shelved as part of this new approach, and the company is looking for new leadership for DC Films.

It would seem that Warner Bros. Discovery has only given the go-ahead for one DC movie at this time, and that project is Joker: Folie à Deux, directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix and pop star Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. Notably, the picture takes place outside the main timeline of the DCEU, but if this revelation tells you anything, it’s that DC’s “Elseworld” universe will stay intact despite rumors that Zaslav wants a unified universe.
It should come as no surprise that WB Discovery has decided to give priority to the Joker sequel, particularly given that the first film shattered the record of $1 billion at the worldwide box office, which is quite uncommon for DC films. Still, it seems strange that Zaslav hasn’t given Matt Reeves the green light to work on The Batman 2, given that Reeves has reportedly been actively working on the sequel.
Joker: Folie à Deux is currently set to arrive in October 2024.
